I led the complete brand transformation for Majstro, starting with strategic research to define a fresh visual identity and designing a new, modern logo. From there, I produced a comprehensive suite of branding and event materials-rolling them out seamlessly across LinkedIn, Facebook, print, and physical touchpoints-which helped drive a 600% increase in social media impressions.

Role

Brand Designer

Majstro is a software development company based in Sri Lanka. Since 2017 it has delivered SaaS platforms, web and mobile applications, AI-powered solutions and cloud systems for clients and partners around the world, including Canada and the US.

Majstro is more than the code it ships. It is a team that takes part in CSR initiatives, plays mercantile sports and goes on outings together. The rebrand set out to capture both sides: a dependable engineering partner and a friendly, energetic team.

Majstro - Cient Story
  1. Positioning. Majstro focuses on long-term partnerships, not one-off client work. The identity needed to communicate partnership, not just service delivery.
  2. Personality. It had to feel trustworthy and reliable without being cold or corporate, and reflect the people-first culture behind the company (CSR, sports, outings).
  3. Standing out in the crowd. The software industry is full of look-alike brands, and logos built from the letter "M" or from code symbols are everywhere. Majstro needed an identity that gets noticed and remembered, especially with international partners who meet it first through a profile, a website or a booth.
  4. Global credibility. Working with Canada- and US-based clients and partners meant the brand had to look professional and trustworthy to audiences far from Sri Lanka.

Primary audience

For brand design, I focused on entrepreneurs aged 25-45: founders and decision-makers who value speed, clear communication and a partner with personality.

Competitor analysis

Fresh from completing a brand design masterclass, I applied a structured, research-first approach to our rebrand. I began by analyzing how other software companies in the industry present themselves visually-noticing the prevalence of common "M" lettermarks and generic code icons, which helped me identify visual conventions to avoid.

Beyond aesthetics, I dug into what makes technology partners truly trustworthy to clients, looking closely at how larger companies build bold, futuristic, and commanding identities. I also examined our target audience's core pain points and priorities: above all, clients look for a partner they can trust, alongside qualities like agility and a collaborative, friendly approach. This strategic foundation guided every creative decision moving forward.

Mood Board

From the research, the brand direction was defined as:

Strong · Bold · Friendly · Fun · Modern

with trust and reliability underneath, since Majstro's value is in dependable partnerships.

Design principles

  • Trust: solid lines and balanced proportions
  • Energy: dynamic shapes and a vibrant palette
  • Distinctiveness: a mark and palette that stand out among look-alike tech brands
  • Human warmth: friendly and approachable, reflecting the team's culture
  • Problem-solving: abstract forms that suggest technology and innovation
  • Modern look: clean, contemporary and forward-looking
  • Scalable: clear at any size, from app icons to large signage
  • Adaptable: full-color, monochrome and reversed versions for digital and print

I spent 21 days in several design phases, with most of the time going into brainstorming. Time spent exploring early concepts is what keeps a mark from looking like every other tech logo.

Concept: M + J + Code

Logo Concept

The mark combines three ideas:

  • M for Majstro
  • J as a distinctive second letter that makes the mark ownable
  • <> code brackets for software development

Merging these into one simple, balanced shape was the key to avoiding the generic "M + code" look.

After comparing many palettes, I chose two colors. Both feel modern, attractive and playful. Each color is common on its own, but the pairing creates a distinctive, energetic combination that stands out and matches the "bold and friendly" direction.

After the rebrand, Majstro's social media analytics showed a 600% increase in impressions.

The new identity gave the company a recognizable, consistent presence. Applying it the same way across profiles, print and events meant every touchpoint reinforced the others, and helped Majstro stand out to partners in Sri Lanka and abroad.

  • Start with the relationship, not the logo. Defining Majstro as a development partner shaped every design decision.
  • Brand the whole company, not just the service. CSR, sports and team culture are part of why partners choose Majstro, so the identity needed warmth as well as professionalism.
  • Consistency compounds. Applying the identity everywhere at once made the rebrand feel real and drove visibility.
